The wood products division manufactures bridge sections and adds value to the lumber side-cut through a finishing process. It also consists of a state-of-the art carpentry shop which manufacturs custom-made furniture and provides wood-working services.
In 2018, the first year of operation as a bridge section manufacturer, Toosey Old School Wood Products build over 275 bridge panels and is quickly establishing a name for itself in the industry.
The logs come from the 41,000-hectare Chilcotin Military Reserve in close proximity to the Old School. Toosey and Esket (Alkali Lake First Nation) operate a joint-venture company managing the forestry activities on the military reserve.
The company operates four small sawmills, two band saws, two swing saws - producing up to 13,000 board feet of product per shift, an edger, a resaw, a planer and a kiln.
Sawyers, tallymen, edger operators, resaw operators, heavy equipement operators, lumber grades, kiln operator, mouldermen and adminstration personnel.
A Red Seal Journeyman mechanic works from the on-site mechanic bay to servicing equipment on-site.
To date there has been over 265,000 fbm of lumber produced, of which 100-150 mbm will be produced through winter for the 2019 building season.
